Continuing Legal Education Programs

ExStra offers courses on advanced reverse exchange strategies designed for lawyers and CPAs whose practices focus on transactions involving real estate and personal property and on taxation. The courses generally qualify for Continuing Legal Education credits. In addition, the course have “ethics” content that meets various local requirements. 

The courses are delivered in presentation format. Hardcopy of the slides and any supporting materials are provided during the course.

Advanced Topics in Reverse Exchanges

Duration: 75-90 minutes
Ethics: 30 minutes
Content: A summary of basic and advanced reverse 1031 exchange strategies including mechanics, applicability and examples. There is also a discussion of the asset security aspects of reverse exchanges, diligence and qualifications of reverse exchange accommodators and methods for mitigation of risk factors facing clients. Advanced Reverse Exchange Strategies and Techniques

Duration: 4 hours
Ethics: 60 minutes
Content: A detailed account of reverse 1031 exchange processes and a detailed description of various advanced reverse exchange strategies including mechanics, documentation, deferment potential, applicability and numerous detailed examples. Non-safe-harbor reverse exchange structures are discussed in detail and detailed examples provided. There is also a detailed discussion of the asset security aspects of reverse exchanges, especially regarding “execution assurance” provisions that mitigate client and accommodator risk. The discussion of accommodator selection criteria, diligence processes, bonding and insurance, conformance to local and federal laws regarding 1031 accommodators and other risk mitigation factors is extensive.  A course outline can be downloaded here.
